About Us
ViewSource was borne out of frustration.
We all know the internet is packed with interesting, cool, provocative, entertaining, smart video — but finding it sucks. You can't find it in a search engine, because you don't know what to search for. Maybe you tried the YouTube Most Popular list, but now you're blind because you stabbed out your eyeballs. You probably discover most video via friends on Facebook and Twitter, but that always leaves you thinking, What am I missing outside my friend network? There must be more than this, right?
We believe there is. This site is an experiment to prove it.
ViewSource finds one good thing every day.
Every weekday, we'll email you just one video that meets some vague criteria of interestingness. It might be a fascinating old music documentary that snuck online, or it might be some crazy hip-hop video. It might be a brand new supercut, or it might be a particularly cinematic animated gif. Hopefully it won't be the "viral video" that Aunt Agnes forwarded, because the goal of this project is to prove there's more out there than cats FaceTiming each other, unless of course it's a really good video of cats FaceTiming each other.
We also might write a little bit about the video industry, including, perhaps, some thoughts on the future of YouTube or a wishlist for whatever-the-heck Apple is is building.
Oh, and we reserve the right to talk about Downton Abbey and Homeland and Game of Thrones if things get exciting. Besides, the distinction between online video and cable television is eroding every day, so we'll eschew those categories completely.
ViewSource is a passion project.
The goal is to do this for one year. We have no ads or sponsors. If you have a video tip, please contact us. If you think this might be a groovy experience to watch, please signup for the newsletter.
See you online.
