Is it a music video or a movie trailer? If you don't know the answer, it's probably a good thing.
The new Black Keys / RZA collaboration above is related to the release of RZA's new movie, The Man with Iron Fists, which hits theaters next weekend. There's already a red band trailer for it, but that leads to another categorical inquiry: why is the original green band trailer actually more violent?
Marketing, I guess.
Speaking of marketing…. Because RZA was so influential in the kung-fu portions of Kill Bill, the studios probably put some buffer time between the release of The Man with Iron Fist and Django Unchained, the new Tarantino movie that lands on Christmas. The second Django Unchained trailer just arrived, and let's just say it has some typographic similarities.
It's also extremely reminiscent of the new Bret Easton Ellis / Paul Schrader project. The grindhouse trailer for The Canyons stars Lindsay Lohan, which is a sentence I've waited my whole life to write.
THUD!
That sound you hear is the new Iron Man 3 trailer, which dropped last night. If that voiceover bit about terrorism doesn't remind you of RZA, get your head checked.
Oh yeah, a new Gatsby trailer also arrived, but you're probably not going to confuse that with anything above. However, a prediction: someone will do a grindhouse mashup of it, because like Django Unchained, it also stars Leonardo DiCaprio. No brainer.
